Grandpa's Waffles

So the story goes...

Grandpa and I make Bisquick waffles when I spend the night. Many years ago, I was stirring the batter he had mixed, and I couldn't quite break up the flour clumps in it. On closer inspection, I saw the clumps of flour weren't flour at all, but little worms that had sprouted in our expired Bisquick. Grandpa was very upset at such a thing, which was ironic because he was an old navy boy in WWII and was very much used to worms in his baked goods. He wrote Bisquick a letter informing them of this unfortunate mishap (the mishap being, he hadn't realized the Bisquick was expired), and Bisquick, being a nice company, replied with coupons for free Bisquick.

Grandpa turned 86 today, though he claims he was born at midnight between the 9th and the 10th, and his mother was allowed to choose which day would be his official birthday. Dad and Uncle Scott came up to lunch with us, and we heard lots of fun, funny, and interesting stories from this old man.

Happy Birthday, Gramps!
