Barn owl

Can you see it? Finally, I have seen the Roudsea Woods barn owl! We had a lovely walk around the woods marking up some coppice enclosures, then spotted a harvest mouse nest. Did you know that they do not occur in Cumbria? Well they do now!
Then I went to wait by the flooded pastures as the tide held back the river. Rob thinks the barn owl knows that the poor flooded mice will be easy to catch as the waters flow in.
Sure enough within 20 minutes there it was! It gradually worked its way closer and flew past within 20 metres, then worked its way round again. I had a really lovely view of the golden feathers, so pleased.
We have a deluxe nest box to erect for them so hopefully there may be some babies later in the year.
