The life & times of Jacks

Happy Saturday from Louisiana

*more backblips*

This morning we finally tried some Beignets and they were delicious!  Afterwards we went to The Presbytere Museum in Jackson Square.  It was amazing.  The bottom floor was dedicated to Hurricane Katrina and it really brought to life how devastating it would have been for people living in the area and also how:
1 - it could have been avoided
2 - how the response was frankly piss poor.

We also did the top floor which was more related to the history of carnivals and balls around the New Orleans scene.

In the afternoon we headed back to the hotel where we watched some of the parades go by - our room had a great view on St Charles Ave and a balcony which was handy when it got particularly chilly down there.

The afternoon was also incredibly educational as we went to the WWII Museum.  Now I have to say that I was not actually looking forward to this one as when you have been to one, you have been to them all, right?

Wrong!

This place was so brilliantly put together that it is one of the BEST war museums I have ever been in.  They had tried to capture the sense of the geographies key aspects of the war were set in and you would follow the story of a specific WW hero from the US through the exhibits.  My guy was totally boring but Steve's was pretty interesting.  It was really well done.

In the evening we headed back to the hotel to freshen up before heading back into the french quarter where we found a nice wee bar to have a cocktail and some bar snacks as we didn't have a huge appetite this day.

Another fun day in New Orleans.
