Snowdrop

The Toby for breakfast.  A beautiful but oh so cold day, especially on the Snowdrop.  This is a wonderful ferry.  "Ferry across the Mersey..."  Another full-on day with our three!  Yesterday was Manchester with the Science and Industry and Football museums while today we were on the Mersey using the ferry to get to the Space museum and then another short trip to find out about a German U-boat: U-534.  It was very interesting.

The Captain , Herbert Nollau was only 26 and the oldest of his crew.
the boat was hit by a depth charge and went down slowly allowing 47 out of the 52 crew to escape but more men were trapped in the forward torpedo room.  They managed to get out via the torpedo tubes but one died from the bends as they ascended from 67m.  An epic escape!

Not being a war grave the U-boat was raised and is now on view in parts.  Very rusty and there seem to be a lot of rubber boots left for the kids to spot!!

We were very lucky as the rain only just started as we were getting off the ferry back at Liverpool.  Food at Ed's Diner and home.  Now I must make food for the horde!
