Donnies
When I was little I used to call my hands 'Donnies' and it seems to have stuck as I referred to Esther's hands as Donnies too. The boy looked at me gone out. So I googled it to find out its origin, this is the best explanation I found:
"The origin of this slang goes back to WW1 when british regiments went in France and were confronted with a population on the brink of starvation that would beg the soldiers for food. They would normally hold their hands out and ask in French to be given food/rations"
Donnez meaning 'give' in French.
Doesn't explain why it's West Midlands slang though.
A visit from the Smiths today. If Esther turns out as lovely as Erin and Harriet then I have done a good job. They are both adorable.
