Time

This is the view to the west from my work. Quite beautiful isn't it? These are the mountains of Tröllaskagi, Súlur to the far left is probably the youngest as it hasn't been worn down as much as the rest of them. They are still all millions of years old. The mountains to the right, where the skying area's lights shine, are even older. Their tops have been worn down to a flat plateau by the glacier that covered the northern hemisphere aeons ago.
Between them and Súlur is a valley that is much younger than the mountains that surround it. As the glacier gave way after one of the ice-ages it carved this U-shaped valley out of the earth. I don't know the age differences between these geological features, but they are wast. Probably even longer than the time that has passed since the creation of that valley to our times. They were all certainly there when my country was settled in the late eight century.
In the foreground is one of Akureyri's newest parts built mostly in the 90's. It is amazing how much we humans have impacted on the way nature looks, even here in Iceland that is vary scarcely populated, and in such a short time considering the age of these mountains, that are young compared to some mountains on continents. In some parts of the world its hard to ever see nature that is not man made.
Even closer you can see that the trees don't have any leaves at this time of year. As winter draws to an end they will start budding and be in their fullest green next summer. Everywhere around us we can see time, its effect in passing, if we just know where to look.
This summer I will turn 45, which will probably mark the mid point of my life. I've had a good first half and hope the second half will be even half as good. My estimated 90 years seem to pale in comparison to the weight of the ages surrounding me, but a leaf only gets one summer.
