Orakei Korako

We set off this morning, after a night of torrential rain, to a new thermal area for me, Orakei Korako, about an hours drive towards Taupo from Rotorua.
We parked the car and took a little boat across a small lake to the thermal area which was established as a tourist attraction about 16 years ago although has been around as a result of the eruption of volcano Taupo since about 135AD.
It was a pretty spot although l do think that Wai o Tapu, up the road, has a lot more to offer.
The photo is of one of the silica flows with very hardy, yellow algae growing on it.
