Raised Beds

As a gardener, I'm always interested in whats being grown and produced locally. On the terraces it's olives, avocados, almonds, peaches and citrus fruits but most of the farms have these enclosed beds, presumably for growing vegetables, a design which I guess is too prevent soil being lost down the slopes!
A day of local exploration today while earthdreamer headed out on a personal challenge to walk and run to a mountain peak! I could manage the walking if given the time but not the running! The small town of Competa is a delightful maze of cobbled streets, with whitewashed houses often tiled for a metre or two up, most have balconies with pots of flowers, roof terraces and fabulous old wooden doors some of which are painted in  bright colours. I was delighted to still see many small shops selling groceries, bread, hardware and tobacco's, they reminded me of the two years of my childhood spent living on the island of Menorca. There are beautiful places for drawing water and a square where clothes washing would have been a communal event in the past.
Time to head to the square and get the beers in for the birthday boys return! A couple of extras today, Competa under Maroma mountain and a watering place.
