Warbeth

A jaunt out today for Ollie and me, with J, Scratch and a borrowed wheelchair!  What larks!  We had a great day thanks, in no small way, to the wonderful sunshine.

We both wanted to look for wool in The Quernstone in Stromness, so we headed west.  At the Brig o' Waithe we saw several cars and folk with binoculars, tripods and cameras.  It turned out they were looking at this.  We should have stopped . . . !

After our wool shopping and much browsing, we drove along to Warbeth beach and while J stayed in the warmth of the car with Radio 3, the dogs and I went for a blowy, salty walk!  It was a beautiful, bright and breezy day, the sea turquoise and covered in white horses.  Three hardy ladies, with a combined age of nigh on 200 yrs, were building a bonfire and preparing a picnic!  They invited us to join them, but instead we retreated to Julia's for delicious pea and ham soup followed by apple pie, before heading home.  No sooner in the door than the sleet and hail stones started!  Excellent timing, and a super day out.
