Florence

Early flight today from Gatwick to Pisa. Then a train from Pisa to Florence which took about an hour. Walked to our hotel and were out sightseeing by 1.00pm Italian time.
Our first stop was Santa Maria Novella - a huge church near our hotel with incredible murals, many dating back to the 13th century. They were stunning. The church was just so full of history.
Then walked down to the river - Flume Arno - and crossed the bridge in the photo - the Ponte Santa Tirinita. Walked along the river bank to Ponte Vecchio - the famous bridge with shops built on it. It was built in 1345 and originally was full of butchers shops - but later taken over by gold and jewellery shops. Incredible sight.
We then just wandered around. Florence is such an amazing city, around each corner is another spectacular building, steeped in history.
Finally had a lovely meal in an outside cafe in a lovely square - spaghetti of course.
Back to the hotel having walked about 12 miles.
