Port Appin afternoon

Went up to Port Appin today - had agreed to give a talk to the Appin Historical Society.

Took the opportunity to go to the new house to take more books and get some painting done. Fortunately the tiling man chose the same afternoon to come, which was handy.

This is Castle Stalker, which sounds so much better in its  original Gaelic which is  Caisteal an Stalcaire. Some years ago the owner offered guided tours, maybe still does. We met him on the beach and he boated us out and showed us around. He explained how the only source of the huge timbers he needed to replace the long-gone roof was in Canada, so he had to import them. He and his (many) friends carried them in through the door and bodily hauled them up to the roof!

Rather a wet and windy day, but it can only get better!
