Derelict Sunday 18 - 5 years on

5 years ago tomorrow my city Christchurch New Zealand, had a devastating earthquake, wrecking homes and taking and wrecking lives. Tomorrow we remember those who were lost. But today was a protest day, for those whose lives and homes are still derelict, thanks to the Earthquake Commission and the Insurance companies failing to do their jobs.

The crowd were there to make their voices heard. Not the usual protesters, but ordinary people with ordinary lives, many of whom will have never been in any sort of protest before but who are desperate to have someone, anyone, listen and care.  And there are still, after 5 years, thousands of them. We finally won our battle in May last year, but I have deep sympathy for those still fighting.

So, Derelict Homes, Derelict Lives, the fight continues. This is my Derelict Sunday entry.
