Minangkabau House

The Minangkabau House is located at the Kralingse Bos - a forest - with a gorgeous view over the lake with the spectacular skyline of Rotterdam in the background.

It's built like the traditional houses of the Minang Kabau people in Sumatra Indonesia, where it houses complete generations of families and their rice storage all together under one roof. Every time the family expanded an additional part was built on.

This Dutch replica is originally built in - I believe somewhere in the '80's but can't find the info anywhere - and served an Indonesian restaurant called Minan Kabau Baru and in my knowledge still does.

In 1998 it burt down to the ground and took two years to rebuild. Currently it also houses a restaurant called 'The Schone Lei' freely translated into a fresh start.

'Selamat Datang' or welcome in Indonesian.
