Trip to York

Arranged a wee while ago to take Ben to York to visit the National Railway Museum as trains have been one of his great favourites for a long, long time. Of course we also had to go there by train, in the big long Vergin (Virgin) no less !! Mummy and Daddy came to wave us goodbye at Perth Station, and Ben was so excited when the train snaked into the station.

There was a delay of around half an hour as an hgv had struck a bridge near Drem. We arrived in York a bit later than planned but we still had plenty time to check into the hotel, Premier inn on Blossom Street in the Mickelgate area, then walk the short way into the centre, through the Shambles then stopped off in a Cafe called Springespresso for lunch as Ben said we hadn't had any! The coffee there was the best I had tasted in a long time and we had panini and pancakes as well. This is us sitting at the window seat getting a good view of street life from it. After that we headed up to the Yorkminster, and wandered in through a side door. It was pretty quiet inside apart from a service taking place in one of the areas. Ben was a bit spooked by the hushed voice as we walked in a darkened area as the service was being amplified! I was in awe of the beauty of the Minster inside. And because there were no crowds it made it even better wandering around.

Outside and it was just getting dark so we wandered back into the Shambles. Small boys make their own entertainment with every step to be jumped off, handrails to slide down and generally ask questions about everything new. It's so entertaining and good fun.

When are we have tea says Ben so we had a look around and found a restaurant on the way to the hotel called Brigantes. It was also dog friendly and first we met a beagle, whose owner couldn't understand my accent which I found funny because she would agree when I said something, laugh and then ask what I just said :). We then met a poodle/cavalier pup who Ben took a big liking to and was cuddling and clapping him for ages .

By this time it was around 8.30 and Ben was flagging a bit with all the excitement and was desperate to get back to the hotel room so we walked back. He was given his own card for the entry door when we checked in, we never needed ours, he operated the lift and then the room door and locked it. It's funny how they enjoy the little things like that. Ready for bed and I think he fell asleep within 5 minutes!
