Ideation

Confusion.... desperation washes over the face of the 'most important assignment ever' first year student. They are determined to find the perfect quote on that page.

Arms reach to the heavens & eyes ponder the ceiling, the meaning of life & if it's viable to get the assignment done before the drink prices change at the bar across the road?? The second year student continues to work punctuating their study by checking face book  .... Like :)

A pile of books are a make-shift pillow. The third year students' arms fold across dreamfilled eyes. There are still 8 hours before the assignment is due so there is time to rest in between collecting the books & reading them.

An average day in the La Trobe Reading Room of the State Library of Victoria.

Pages of ancient history, bygone eras & days only just past line the walls. They migrate to desks. They come & go lit by the glare from tablet screens. Knowledge, ideas, curiosity, imagination - they all live within these walls. They grow, they change, confirmation & rejection, they are interrupted & supported by the shhhh of humble librarians, guardians of this hallowed turf.

The Reading Room is a magical realm & once a year on 'White Night' it reveals the potential it holds within. That night the shhhh is owned by the awe-inspired, encaptulated, educated & entertained  -thousands of eager minds, many who may otherwise never pass through its doors.

Ideation, a stunning & beautiful light projection, explored the ecosystem of the mind in the context of libraries. Painting the walls of the reading room, the artists Nick Azidis, Lisa Greenaway, Adem Jaffers & Bentley Dean triumphed creating an amazing emersive experience. Bravo!
