The Boys in the Boat - fascinating read

Went to a very interesting session last night. This book has been on the NY bestseller list for a few years now. It is fascinating both in terms of history and the sport of rowing. The grandson (and great nephew) of the 2 main characters spoke for 90 minutes. Jim Pocock is an accomplished speaker and spends much time travelling to his speaking engagements and enthralling audiences. The book follows 1 main character and then the side story of the 2 Pocock brothers. It is about the USA Olympic men's eight that competed in the 1936 Olympics in Germany just before the outbreak of war. Most interesting about last night is he didn't talk about the contents of the book, as the 60+ of us in the room had read it (& Jim is not the author), instead he filled us in on more background and incredible side stories that together would make another great book. My sweetie was in the UK with our sons and visiting his many cousins and unfortunately could not attend. I went in his stead with my good friend (& adopted daughter SG) and we had his book signed for him, he will be pleased. I had a good day, followed and watched online young son's hockey game win then hit the gym and completed my own mini triathlon, followed 3 hrs later with an Epsom salt bath. One more sleep and my sweetie is home. Check out our eldest son in hazelh's blip today, they were such kind hosts!!!
