Reading

Reading Museum was my tourist destination today. On the top floor there is an exhibition of finds from the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatem (now Silchester). There was a school visit taking place at the time and they seemed to be enjoying the visit to this area of the museum, whether or not they were absorbing any of the Roman history is another matter, though the teacher was certainly trying to get them to relate to the objects on display by asking about their modern day equivalents.

On the next floor down is a 1:1 copy of the Bayeax Tapestry which I think is probably the highlight of the museum, and I suspect not very well known. Finally the ground floor has a small exhibition of objects from Reading's history and the recent past.

After visiting the Museum I had a short wander around the town centre, which in my opinion is mostly quite unattractive
