MAKS 2016

It's taken me ages (with many interruptions in between) to sort through over 1,000 images taken at MAKS 2016 airshow (or the Moscow International Aviation and Space Salon to call it by its full name).  Hence the long time taken to fill in this blip due back on 28 August 2016.

MAKS takes place every two years at the Ramenskoe Airbase near the town of Zhukovsky about 40km out of Moscow.  About 400,000 people attended this year and most of those over the weekend.  So it's crowded.  Fortunately, the action all happens in the sky above so no problem with people getting in the way of photography.

The blip is of the Russian Air Force's Aerobatic Team in MiG-29's.  I've added extra blips today to mark the effort needed to sort through hundreds of images!

Incidentally, this was my first outing with a Tamron f/5.6 150-600 lens which launched last year as kind of a poor man's super zoom.  I find the lens works well in sharp contrast conditions (bright light and crisp shadows) but is a bit fuzzy in poor light.  In the latter conditions, the Canon f/2.8 70-200 (with a 1.4X extender) is vastly superior in light and sharpness.  Nonetheless, the Tamron is a lot of fun and, as shown in the blips, gets one in close and personal.  It's also light enough to be able to swing around and follow the action.  Like I did.
