This plaque is one of a series of seven, fixed to a wall near the town centre to mark significant events in its history. The dates span from 150-170 A.D. (Roman villa built on the Rye) to 1945 (Winston Churchill addresses crowd from the balcony of the Red Lion Hotel in his campaign to win the General Election). Good to have a sense of history - interesting to speculate what might go on the eighth one...
