STRATOCASTER NECK

Quick job this afternoon - scrape off the ghastly 0.5 mm thick polyester varnish & sand it down to a perfect smooth. Slap on two coats of quick-drying sealer - sand that down - then three coats of nitro-cellulosic varnish cut with 30% shellac.

Tomorrow another three coats - let it dry for four days & on Tuesday sand again & polish - the result is guaranteed to be much more pleasant playing-wise!

Polyester varnish is cheap & hard & shiny, but it's acoustically constricting & unpleasant to the touch :o(

It's all about subtlety...
