Squirrels Defeated...

... I think. We didn't actually see them attempting to circumvent the squirrel barrier (extra photo) I installed a week ago, but they haven't been seen at all since then. I followed the recommendation on the Audubon Society website. The metal pipe cost less than a dollar at the Re Store and I didn't have to cut it!

This female Northern Flicker flew in with the male shown in Cynthia's blip. We also have pairs of Downy Woodpeckers and Varied Thrushes visiting frequently. The gender of the many juncos and chickadees is not as easy to discern, but it's reasonable to assume that both sexes are present. There should be lots of baby birds in our neighborhood before long!
