Why Do We Take Photos?

Kendall recently hosted a really interesting discussion on this question. I think, for me, that one reason is that I was never very good at drawing or painting. It was partly about technique, and partly about imagination. A "good" photo requires both, and whilst I feel as if I have learnt a lot about technique (and know that I still have a lot still to learn), imagination is more problematic. We have some blippers who manage to be both great painters and photographers. Perhaps the imagination of the artist transfers across both mediums?
