Bus Challenge No 81!!

A bright, frosty morning  turned into a glorious Winter’s day! So a bus into Ely and then a second bus to Cambridge!!

First stop was a return visit to Christ’s College (extra photo 1), to track down the statue of Charles Darwin, a former student at Christ’s, before heading to Trinity College where I had a lovely time wandering around in the glorious sunshine. Trinity College was founded by Henry VIII in 1546 and is where princes, spies, poets and prime-ministers have all been taught.

My first port of call was the Wren Library which was completed in 1695 to the design of Sir Christopher Wren. Among the special collections housed in the Wren are 1250 medieval manuscripts, many books from Sir Isaac Newton's own library (a former student at Trinity), and A.A. Milne's manuscripts of Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner.

From the lawns in front of the library, there were lovely views across to St John’s College (main photo) and the perfect spot for a picnic lunch, watching Cambridge’s iconic punts go by. Back into the college’s main courtyard (extra photo 2) and to the Trinity College Chapel, built during the reigns of Mary and Elizabeth I (extra photos 3 and 4).

After only two and a half hours in town, it was time for me to head back. Hopefully I shall return for a more leisurely visit another day…
