The Kibble Palace

A beautiful morning.  I had to go out the the West End to collect a picture and before going home I walked up to the Botanic Gardens.

The Kibble Palace is a 19th century glasshouse.  Originally designed by John Kibble for his home on Loch Long in the 1860s it was eventually brought up the River Clyde by barge to the Botanic Gardens.  It was fully erected in its current location in 1873.  The vast interior is used for the cultivation of temperate plants.  The main plant group is the collection of New Zealand and Australian tree ferns, some having lived here for 120 years.
