Connections

Spent almost all day working away on research, and had almost not agreed to go to B&M's but so pleased I did. B was showing us his family sourdough mother culture and we made rye bread loaves and ate one he'd made earlier with herrings in sour cream and mackerel ceviche-chatting non stop about food, family memories of cooking (B's great grandfather was a baker from Russia who took his mother culture to USA 107 years ago) and the others all had similar memories-from Italy, Wales and Scotland.
Then we had slow cooked brisket and vegetables-another of B's family recipes-delicious. Ended with us all taking turns following B's grandmother's recipe for 'schnecken' that she used to send over in a tin for him every week when he came to Edinburgh in the 80s. By the time I went back to work I'd had a really special afternoon.

Family/friendship, memories and cooking/food....my idea of heaven!
