DEATH AT DAWN

The life and death of North Shields soldier William Hunter

Another trip to Newcastle today.  This time I went to The Discovery Museum to see a performance of a stage play entitled " Death At Dawn".  It told the story of local man William Hunter who was shot by a firing squad for desertion in 1916.. The play was performed " in the round " and the audience of about 60 were very close to the action.  My seat was actually behind  William Hunter  as he was executed.  It was an experience being in the firing line myself.  The play was excellent and very well performed by all the actors.   The author Peter Mortimer was there in person selling programmes and signing them.  Don't normally buy a programme but decided to get one  today.

I have added an extra shot of The Discovery Museum.  Its a lovely building.

Bit of shopping afterwards but it was even colder today so I didn't linger in town for very long.  Home to a warm house and an evening of TV viewing.
