The keynote this morning was a light hearted romp through the programming languages available in the mid 70s. Why, asked Richard Astbury, has the software industry completely failed (for 40 years) to use any of the languages that the academics have created, despite their obvious superiority?

He blamed it on the academics, but I think the blame lies elsewhere.
