Kuala Concrete

The skyline in Kuala Lumpur is so much taller than anywhere else I spend time. There is a hell of a lot of concrete in this city; above, below, in front, behind and it does mean that trying to get to a park 75 metres away usually means a 45 minute detour because of various overpasses, skyscrapers and construction paraphernalia getting in the way.

I can't help feeling that KL is overlooked by Singapore and Bangkok in terms of its regional significance but it's got a lot going for it (especially if the propaganda on the tourist hop-on-hop-off bus is anything to go by) and could be the best of both worlds - pleasantly leafy, chaotic in parts but not overwhelming, decent transport, probably affordable, great food, seemingly pretty safe. Overall: liveable.
