An Obscure Corner Of Physics.

It's been just over a week since the existence of the Higgs Boson was announced; the effect of which elevated Professor Peter Higgs to the forefront of public consciousness, linked to his eponymous particle first postulated in a theoretical model published in 1964.

Today, this portrait of the Professor by Lucinda Mackay can be found in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, hanging against a backdrop of his equations and diagrams - a modest tribute to nearly half-a-century of diligent enquiry that has begun to yield fresh and exciting insights into the nature of matter and the history of our great Universe.
