Admiring the mosaic

Today the walking group went around the Ifton Heath area, crossing from England to Wales then back to England. It was very cold and in places the lanes were a sheet of ice where water had run from fields. We had to teeter along hedge lines to keep our balance.

The walk returned via Ifton Meadows Nature Reserve which was created from spoil heaps from the local colliery. On top of the mound in the centre is the mosaic which celebrates the site's mining past.

When I was teaching in the area I took a group of children to do some maypole dancing there as part of a village celebration.
