Silver Saxifrage

In other news... I'm back.  Well, now that blipfoto is back to being blipfoto, I'm here to see if it is all good again.

A visit to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh this morning for an hour between readying the cottage for our next guests and writing a blog post about the Battle of Prestonpans.

At The Botanics there's a lovely exhibition in the John Hope Gateway at the moment about lichens.  A study of these small plants has led Kate Bajic to create jewellery inspired by their form and colour.  It's on till 15 May so there's still time to go see it.

The photograph features (I think) a silver saxifrage in the Alpine Collection at RBGE.  The silvery deposits on the leaves are deposits from lime-secreting pores - you can read the Royal Horticultural Society's booklet about it if you want to know more.
