Visiting the Ones Gone

This man is carrying a bucket of water to wash the gravestone, some flowers and some incense. He is visiting a Buddhist graveyard that is actually next to my house. So near in fact, that I smell the incense when my windows are open in the cooler seasons (too hot in summer, need the air-con!). As well, the flowers and fruit that people leave attract many unwanted guests such as rats. However, these rats are lunch for the palm-civet cats (called hakubishin here) and raccoon dogs (tanuki) as well as snakes. Amazing how living in the centre of one of the world's largest cities, and I still get to see relatively large wild animals living here with us.
