Solace: Day 1

Today's the day we get to take our first holiday in our narrowboat, Solace. We share the ownership with 12 other couples so we all get at least 3 weeks holiday each year. The 4 of us have been hiring boats for the previous 4 years so we know it's the sort of holiday we enjoy.

One of the other owners met us to show us where everything was then we turned the key in the ignition and .... purrrrrr! The quietest engine we have ever had! It was raining when we left the marina at Great Haywood but soon faired up.

The day's cruising was through lovely countryside and we stopped for the night just beyond this bridge. A nice evening was had, eating, drinking and watching Bad Teacher on DVD.

Who said Friday, 13th was unlucky?

At 11.45pm we all headed for bed and The Man and I were left searching for the legs to convert the table into a bed. Nowhere to be found! What we did find was a folding single bed of a different height to the settee. Oh, dear! We had brought bedding for a double bed, not 2 singles!

Perhaps the man who slipped and fell into the marina as he returned from holiday thought it was an unlucky day! Poor chap, he'd been there a while before Chippy helped him out.
