The Green Place

Carry on camping

I drove my eldest to guide camp today. The camp is in the aptly (given the amount of bubbling water) named village of Les Bulles (yes, written exactly like that) in the Gaume region, right down in the far south-east corner of Belgium. Gaume is supposed to have a micro-climate, warmer and sunnier than other parts of Belgium, although it appears to have gone for a holiday today.

The first few metres of the field in which the girls are going to camp for two weeks is basically under water...my daughter is one of the figures legging it across the field as the rain pelts down. The meandering river Semois is at the other end of the field and seems to be bursting its banks. I'm sure the camp will go swimmingly....

To be fair, the sun did come out about 5 minutes after this photo was taken but the weather is psychotic and driving back I went through torrential rain, sun, torrential rain, sun....
