Capability Brown at Blenheim

Had a lovely day out today at Blenheim Palace with my friend C. We particularly wanted to look at the Capability Brown exhibition, marking the 300th anniversary of his birth.  The Blenheim Palace landscape park is recognised as one of the greatest examples of his work.  It was fascinating to watch the programme about how he achieved it and the time and manpower that went into digging out the two large interconnected lakes and the widening of the river and building of the cascade.  Its the sort of work you just couldn't imagine taking place now. The exhibition included plans and equipment used, plus paintings, photos and embroidery, which I thought made a nice mix..

We then went for a lovely walk in the park - it was mighty cold!!!  The main photo is of the palace itself as viewed from the bridge, and the extra of a sheep who appeared to be praying (actually we think she had a bad foot and this was more comfortable).
