This is the older of the two Rowallan Castles. The oldest portion of the building is said to date back to the 13th century.
The main front, staircase and double turrets were built about 1562 by John Mure of Rowallan and his wife Marion Cunninghame.
By the 1880's the castle was in dire need of repair. A new castle was built and is still in use.
Between the two castles and beside the golf course is the Glasshouse Restaurant where we had a really nice lunch.
