The World Through My Eyes

By Marlieske

Out On the

Prairie...
Last week we got a new wilda beast in the Maashorst... The European bison or Wisent is the largest land mammal in Europe. By hunting the Bison/Wisent disappeared from the wild in 1927, only 54 animals were left in captivity. Since then, they were working on the return of the Bison/Wisent  in the European countryside. Especially in Eastern Europe the Bison/Wisent  lives in the wild. The world's population now consists of more than 5,000 Bison/Wisent , of which about 3,500 in the wild or semi-wild. The Bison/Wisent is rarer than the highly endangered black rhino. The arrival of the Bison/Wisent to the Maashorst therefore contributes to maintaining this particular animal.
And I love it! We were there today to watch them, you can see a shot from them in the extra. They still have to get used to people, so we can't come close by... Luckily I have a zoom lens... :-))

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and stars for my yesterdays Blip! They all are highly appreciated... X
