Maslenitsa

Maslenitsa (Russian: Ма́сленица): an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent.  The week bids farewell to winter and welcomes spring (it didn't yet feel that way in the icy wind).

Today was the last day of Maslenitsa (more about it here).  Celebrated in many parks around the city, including Gorky Park with this concert starring Russian singer Alyona Romanova (and here).  She combines ancient Russian folk music with a rock beat.
