Battery Park in Old New Castle

Day #3 of my mini-vacation began with some tax-free shopping at the Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware.
After a few hours spent strolling through the mall (including the requisite stop at LUSH), my mom and I were getting a bit hungry, so we stopped by Fruit Sensations and ordered a couple of smoothies, picked up a couple of pretzels from Auntie Anne's, and most importantly, two slices of cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory, and headed for the car.
As it was quite a warm and sunny afternoon, our next destination was Battery Park in Old New Castle, where we planned on enjoying an ad hoc picnic on the banks of the Delaware River. As it turns out, there was a chilly breeze down by the river where we had claimed a picnic table but that did not stop us from enjoying our "lunch" of sweet treats before packing it in and heading out on our drive back home to central Pennsylvania.
Historic New Castle is the oldest continuously occupied town in the Delaware Valley. It is a vibrant, fully occupied community and one of the most important Colonial/Federal villages in America – second only to Williamsburg, Virginia in the number and authenticity of its historic structures.
It is one of my very favorite places in Delaware and I have spent countless hours here walking through the quaint cobblestone streets and refreshing river pathways.
If you are interested in learning more about the town and its many special events, museums, shops, restaurants and such, you can find some good information here: http://www.historicnewcastle.com/historicnewcastle.com/Welcome.html

"To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon the verdant green hills is the most perfect refreshment."
