Pavillon Baltard, Nogent sur Marne

Great walk today, discovering the port and islands of the Marne in and near Nogent sur Marne.

This concert hall was built in the mid 1980's, again under the Emperor Napoleon III, by the architect Baltard.  It was originally built as a wholesale market area - there were 10 such pavillons in the Halles area in central Paris.  This one housed eggs and poultry.  But in the 1970's, the wholesale market was too old and small, so most of the pavillons were destroyed, but this one was transferred to the suburban town of Nogent sur Marne and has been a successful concert hall since.

JC and I saw Joan Baez perform there, somewhere back in the late 70's, soon after its move..
