Meanderings Through Life

Celtic Painting in the Iron Age Roundhouse

Today it was back to the Roundhouse at Heeley City Farm. This time it was to decorate the interior, with original colours made from woad and zinc oxide, etc.

The paintings around the wall, of which this is just one, were beautiful and from floor to roofline (the scale doesn't really show in this photo).

It's a shame there is no roof to protect them, but they can always be repainted. There did use to be a thatched roof, but local hooligans set fire to the place and the roof was lost (the walls survived). Which materials to replace the roof with are still ongoing.
