Grand Central

Over in Glasgow today at an international anti-stigma conference, and just been hearing about the Danish 'One of Us' anti-stigma campaign, and guess what, Danish mental health stigma is very similar to Scottish mental health stigma, now there is a surprise, not! We need to learn from all round the world, as it is all the same the world over, let's collaborate!

Here is the view of Glasgow Central Station looking out from the Grand Central Hotel.

Here is the history bit now. The hotel was built in 1883, 4 years after the adjoining station was opened.

The hotel made its name on the global stage when on the 24th of May 1927, John Logie Baird transmitted the first ever long distance television pictures over 438 miles of telephone line from London to a 4th floor room in the hotel.

Entertaining many of the world’s leading politicians, including JFK and Winston Churchill, as well as leading superstars from Hollywood including Frank Sinatra and Laurel & Hardy, the hotel became the best place to stay in Glasgow and was a vibrant, glamorous and luxurious icon in the city, which it is still today.

I hope you have all had a good Thursday.
