not the picket line

College was officially closed today because of a lecturers' strike over differential pay and conditions. My tutors are not in the union, however, so they were at work and said that we could come in if we could (the college transport wasn't running either). I was busy this morning but came in at lunchtime expecting to get a good photo for my blip of the picket line, but the striking lecturers were nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile our photography tutors were busy helping us get ready for our forthcoming exhibition and Alan was processing the photos we took yesterday to raise money for Facing Africa.
While I would defend the right to strike (where necessary), wouldn't it be better to try negotiation in the first instance and carry on teaching in the meantime? Just saying.
