Jaguar.

Up early for my train to Edinburgh this morning - lovely quick journey down, and when I arrived at the station Mum and Dad were there to meet me, so we went for breakfast at Valvona and Crolla - yum yum!

After dropping our bags of at our apartment, we headed straight to the zoo - brilliant as usual! Favourite animals for the day were almost definitely the meerkats who seemed to love posing for the cameras, running right up to us and sitting right underneath the camera lens, staring up. As cute as they were, this jaguar pipped them to the post. Other close contenders included a chimpanzee, 2 prehistoric-looking rhinos and of course Tian Tian the panda. We had to book a slot to see the pandas; Yang Guang was apparently "20 stone of reluctant panda", and refused to get out of his bed - luckily Tian Tian had at least dragged herself into the view of the public before KO'ing on her platform!

Thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I think we managed to view nearly every enclosure; our collective feet were pretty sore afterwards! We attempted to find a restaurant for our tea, and ended up in a rubbish tapas place for a glass of wine and some nibbles (Barioja - give it a miss) - luckily we followed up with a superb meal at Al Dente (139 Easter Road), where the staff were lovely and the food was even better.

Back to the apartment to fall into bed - quick email to M and out like a light.
