Castles in the sand

As a first time dad, one of the most exciting things is returning to stuff you enjoyed as a kid but never really got the chance to do very much. For instance, sand castles.

Fitz Jnr, as you can see, is obsessed with them after his first seaside holiday. If he so much as sees a mound of sand on a building site he will point at it and demand we commence construction forthwith. Most of the fun is in seeing how much I can build before he destroys it with all the gusto of Godzilla paying a visit to Tokyo, occasionally sitting down on my carefully sculpted turrets with an evil grin.

As the beach at Crail is so quiet (possibly thanks to the weather) we managed to make this one over two days. By the time we went home for tea, it resembled the sort of elaborate fortification usually seen on a World War One battlefield.

Fitz Jnr also discovered that throwing sand around results in big laughs when it gets into Daddy's eye, although not for Daddy. I hope this does not set a dangerous precedent.
