The Big Picture

The plaque on the monument at the Kumaras in the extras is for the first European settlers who definitely saw the big picture when they decided to leave Englands shores and come to New Zealand.
This is possibly what they would have seen if they came on the low tide except for the jet leaving a trail as it emerges from the clouds.
The local inhabitants belonging to several iwi or Maori tribes already knew that this was a great place to live in. The moderate climate, the rich alluvial soils, the sea full of fish and the birds in the bush on the mountains which is the second extra.
