Mono Monday: The Big Picture

This photograph of Lenham dated May 1932 hangs in the village fish and chip shop. The buildings on the High Street and around the village Square remain more or less unchanged since the photograph was taken.

Most of the properties date back to pre-1830 while The Red Lion pub, Dog & Bear Pub Hotel (formerly a coaching house) and Pippa's Tea Rooms date back to the 15th century.

The village origins date back to 804 while much of the village layout dates back to the 14th century when Henry III granted a charter to the Abbot of Augustine for a medieval market and later a fair.

My cosy cottage is clearly recognisable in the photograph in a row of cottages built in the early 1700s. Despite the holes in the walls and creaky floorboards I'll never tire of living in a period property in a medieval market village.
