Sadie: One Year

Sadie

I remember you on the roof.
You stared in at me and when
we made eye contact you cried
your little kitty cry.
Your mouth was framed white and black,
a Charlie Chaplin moustache for a cat.
When I went out to rescue you,
you rolled on the roof,
extended a paw over the eave
as if to say, "I'm ok up here...
just being a cat...but thanks for
checking on me."
I miss you now, those evenings of yours
on the roof, behind the barn, or
on my lap.
Grape hyacinth grows now where you are,
purple, green grass behind,
spring time,
no one on the roof.
