How To Take Great Photos With Your Camera Phone

Photography has come a long way in the past few decades. Long gone are the days when we would take a photo with a camera which used reels of film, not knowing if the photograph we took would turn out alright or not. These days people take photos with sophisticated digital camera equipment, as well as cameras which are conveniently situated on their phones, which means that there is always an opportunity to take a photograph. This has resulted in a surge in photo taking and people are becoming more at ease with the concept. However, as amateurs, we still have a lot to learn when it comes to taking a good photograph with our phones.

Regardless of what kind of camera phone you have, the very first thing to remember if you want to take a decent photograph is to keep your lens clean and free of dust. All that is needed is a quick wipe with a dry cloth.

It is always a good idea to set your phone to the highest phone resolution and quality. If you don’t know how to do this, it is definitely worth speaking to someone in the know, looking in your phone’s manual, or checking online. Setting your camera phone in this way can really result in some amazing pictures that will have people shocked that they were taken with a camera phone.

As much as you may love them at the time, rather turn off the picture frames for the time being as these could ruin an otherwise great picture. You could always add them on later!

The same goes for the trendy black and white and sepia colored photos- we know how much you love these, too, but rather always stick to the original photo color as changing to sepia or black and white is better done with a photo editing tool.

When you are ready to take your shot, try to ensure that your subject is in a good light. Natural light is always preferable. If you happen to be indoors, try to avoid fluorescent light as this tends to cast a greenish tint on subjects.

It is a good idea to avoid photographing any object that requires tight focusing because camera phones have very short focal lengths and they do best at photographing objects where almost the entire scene is in focus. Some if the best pictures taken with a camera phone are where the subject is kept large and prominent.

Obviously, you will need to keep your hand as steady as possible when pressing the shutter button to avoid a blurry image and it is advisable to keep the phone still for a few seconds afterwards as the phone captures the image.

Finally, be mindful of anyone who would potentially appear in the background of your photograph- think about civil law and the rights of others who may not wish to be in your photograph. If in doubt, rather wait until any bystanders or passersby have moved on before taking your photograph.
