Fox Glacier

In typical west coast weather, we walked as far as we were allowed to see Fox Glacier. The picture shows the path - some people were trying to walk up in high-heeled slip-on sandals. Sadly there are no longer walking tours onto the glacier as it is now to unstable and dangerous. We were kept well away. The glacier is retreating rapidly, attributed to climate change. For a hefty fee it is possible to get a helicopter and land much higher up.

We then had a lovely walk round Lake Matheson. We'd seen photographs of the view of Mount Cook reflected in the Lake - we did not see the mountain for the low cloud, but it was a lovely walk.
